Nigerian geospatial technology startup Milsat has helped power Nigeria’s new digital postcode system after mapping more than 65 million properties nationwide as part of preparations for the country’s first digital census.
The startup worked with the National Population Commission (NPC) to map properties and create digital location data that supports the nationwide postcode initiative, operated by the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST).
The system assigns unique digital postcodes to buildings, giving properties a standardized digital location identifier that can improve addressing and location-based services across Nigeria.
For black businesses, the infrastructure could make it easier to verify customer addresses, improve delivery operations, and reach customers in areas where conventional addressing systems remain limited. It could also support sectors such as e-commerce, logistics, and financial services that depend on accurate location data.
The development shows the growing role of Nigerian technology companies in building specialized digital infrastructure for public and commercial use.
