Cassava Technologies said Tuesday it can now resell access to Anthropic's Claude artificial intelligence models through Amazon Bedrock, the AI service run by Amazon Web Services.

The agreement gives companies, governments, universities and startups in Africa another way to buy Claude and build it into their own products, this time through a regional infrastructure provider. Cassava sells mainly to enterprise customers in Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, Europe and the UK, and says its digital services reach customers in 37 countries.

Neither company disclosed financial terms. The announcement did not say which Claude models Cassava will offer, how its pricing will compare with buying through AWS directly, whether it will bill in local currencies, or which countries it will serve first.

Hardy Pemhiwa, president and group CEO of Cassava Technologies, said putting AI to work in a business starts with access to leading models. He said the company wants to put "advanced AI within reach of every business, government, researcher, entrepreneur and university" across emerging markets.

Cassava described Claude's capabilities as reasoning, image analysis, code generation, and processing in multiple languages. It is pitching the reseller arrangement alongside its own connectivity, cloud, cybersecurity, and AI services, plus its data centers across the continent.

Where the data goes

For founders handling regulated or sensitive data, the processing location matters. Anthropic's documentation lists AWS's Cape Town region (af-south-1) as supporting only Claude's global endpoint on Bedrock. That endpoint routes requests dynamically across all available AWS regions.

Regional endpoints, which keep processing in one specified region for data-residency requirements, cost 10% more than global endpoints. Anthropic's documentation does not list a regional endpoint for Cape Town. Cassava's announcement did not say whether its offering changes where it processes customer requests.

Cassava's AI push

Cassava's business units sell connectivity, colocation, cloud, cybersecurity, AI compute and payments. In March, the group began deploying its Nvidia-powered "AI Factory" at its data centers in South Africa, with Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt and Morocco planned next, Connecting Africa reported. Founder and chairman Strive Masiyiwa said in November 2025 that the company had acquired 12,000 Nvidia GPUs.

Anthropic's IPO filing

The announcement came a day after Anthropic publicly filed an S-1 registration statement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for its proposed initial public offering. Anthropic plans to list Class A shares on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker ANT. It said the number of shares and the price range have not been set.

Zimbabwe's NewsDay reported the deal from Harare on Tuesday, describing it as a distribution agreement covering businesses and governments across the continent.
