With Nigeria’s food security crisis deepened by the COVID-19 global pandemic, the US Agency for International Development (USAID) has launched the USAID/Nigeria COVID-19 Food Security Challenge and will be offering $3million fund and technical assistance to Nigerian companies mitigating the impact of COVID-19 on Nigeria’s Agri-food systems.
As millions of vulnerable households globally are threatened with hunger and malnutrition due to the socio-economic fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic, Nigeria has been plagued with large scale disruption in food production and distribution, the USAID/Nigeria COVID-19 Food Security Challenge will look to partner with commercially viable youth-led and mid-stage companies that are already operating in food production, processing, or distribution across Nigeria to expand food production in Nigeria.
The COVID-19 Food Security Challenge will award 15 to 25 companies up to $75,000 each and 10 to 15 mid-stage companies up to US$150,000 each. Winners will receive both funding and technical assistance to rapidly expand their food production. The application ends on May 9th, 2021, interested startups can click here to apply.
