Stanbic Bank Ghana and Hong Kong-based RD Technologies are exploring a stablecoin-powered payment solution to help Ghanaian businesses settle trade payments with suppliers in Asia.
The collaboration will assess how digital-asset infrastructure can support business-to-business transactions alongside existing banking services.
Under the arrangement, Stanbic Bank Ghana will handle customer onboarding, account opening, know-your-customer checks, transaction approvals and local-currency settlement, while RD Technologies will provide the payment technology, digital-asset infrastructure and access to its Asian settlement network.
The companies aim to address delays, costs, and payment-tracking difficulties associated with cross-border transactions involving multiple intermediaries.
Darwin Mireku, head of Strategy Enablement at Stanbic Bank Ghana, said customer needs, compliance and risk management would guide the initiative.
However, the companies are yet to launch the service.
For businesses importing goods from Asian suppliers, the service could offer another route for settling international transactions if approved and implemented.
