Spiro has launched its first 100 electric motorcycles in Ghana, entering the market with a battery-swapping model and plans for local assembly that could create opportunities for Ghanaian businesses.
The launch featured the Ekon 450 M1 V3 electric motorcycle, designed for commercial riders adopting battery-swapping technology in Ghana’s transport sector.
The battery-swapping system allows riders to exchange depleted batteries for charged ones in two minutes. The company says riders can save up to $2 daily in operating costs compared with petrol-powered motorcycles.

The launch adds Ghana to Spiro’s African expansion. The company reports operating more than 156,000 electric motorcycles and over 2,500 battery-swapping stations across seven African markets. It aims to expand into 20 African markets, extending its electric mobility network across the continent.
For Black-owned businesses in Ghana, the expansion could create potential opportunities in motorcycle maintenance, spare-parts distribution, battery infrastructure, and technical services.
