South African payments company CrissCross has received an undisclosed investment from Circle Ventures as it looks to expand its cross-border payments business across Africa.
The investment was made through Stitch Group, CrissCross’s parent company.
CrissCross plans to use the funding to expand its local payment connections, improve liquidity and develop stablecoin settlement services for businesses. It will also grow its team to support customers across African markets.
The deal comes as stablecoins gain traction as a tool for cross-border transfers, offering businesses another way to move money between markets.
The companies are yet to disclose the investment amount or the terms of the deal.
For founders, stablecoins offer an alternative way to transfer value across borders, though their use depends on regulatory requirements, liquidity, and access to local payment systems. CrissCross’s expansion will focus on connecting these systems while developing settlement infrastructure for businesses operating across African markets.
